The Dwelling Place Children's Program Manager

Hip Hop Fun for Our Kids

Thank you so much to Elissa, who provided our children with an 8-week hip hop dance class!

The kids all had a blast and ended the time with a terrific recital!

Elissa works with at-risk youth at a Minneapolis school, as a Connections Mentor.

Her background is in children and family crisis intervention and prevention, and her passion is to provide healthy expressions of art for at-risk and underprivileged kids.

Billy, the Therapy Dog, and our Children

About once a month Billy, the therapy dog, visits our children during their Confident Kids programming. They love it!

His trainer not only shows our kids how she trains him, but Billy also performs tricks.

The kids love to pet Billy and are able to give him treats when he does his tricks!

Therapy Animals*

Therapy animals offer affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living, hospice, shelters, schools, libraries, and physical therapy centers.

Therapy animals are not the same as service dogs or emotional support animals.

New Children's Program Manager

Dear friends,

It is with great joy that I am able to announce that Julie Sexson has accepted the position of Children's Program Manager, effective March 28, 2016. We are so excited to begin a formal children's program this spring!

New Children's Program Manager, Julie Sexson

Since 2007, Julie has ministered at several nonprofits. Most recently, she served as a board member and Care Ministry Director at Healing Haiti. While there, she developed programs for their orphanage, and led many other initiatives. In recent months, Julie has served on our program committee. We've witnessed firsthand her deep desire to see children heal from trauma, and find new life in Christ.

In May, Julie will graduate with a Masters in Human Services from the University of Northwestern, St Paul.

Julie, and her husband Alex, have three children: Amanda (20), Warren (17), and Audrey (14). In 2014, she and her daughter, Amanda, and  Amanda's nonprofit, Hearts4Charity, hosted a teen dance-a-thon for The Dwelling Place in memory of Anna Hurd, raising funds for The Dwelling Place, and raising teen dating violence awareness.

Statistically, 70% of children living in homes where the mother is a victim of abuse, are also abused. These children are typically behind academically and socially, due to an inability to concentrate, and sleep restfully. Not only does The Dwelling Place provide a safe place to heal, we address children's cognitive, social, and emotional needs. And of utmost importance, we introduce them to Jesus, through our loving staff and volunteers.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our children, through your continued financial support.
