CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

The children escaping abuse with you need protection, love, and age-sensitive care.

Overview

Our Vision

Through our Children’s Program, we envision eliminating the generational cycle of abuse through education and by showing children they are loved and have value.

Our Program Goal

To educate, empower, and introduce opportunities that will increase children’s confidence, social skills, cognitive abilities, and success in school.

The Program

Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Development

Our Children’s Program was created to help all children find healing from domestic violence and break generational cycles. The children at The Dwelling Place participate in therapy, are a part of local church programs, and participate in enriching community extracurricular activities that focus on physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Our case managers and children’s staff work with mothers to connect children to resources that are developmentally appropriate and aid in the healing process.

Assisting Mothers to Improve Parenting Skills with their Children

Mothers participate in weekly parenting classes, and work with their case managers and children’s staff to address individualized parenting support. Parenting skills taught include healthy boundaries, discipline, routines, forming positive relationships with children, self-care and more. The Dwelling Place also provides on-site childcare services on an as-needed basis.

Support Groups for Emotional Healing

Children grades K-5 attend a support group twice per month. This group focuses on learning socio-emotional, life, coping, and friendship skills through a trauma informed and Biblical lens.

After School Tutoring

Children grades K-12 participate in our tutoring program where students are paired to work one-on-one with a tutor to help achieve academic needs and build trust in mentor-like relationships with their tutors.

Pre-K Programming

Children, birth-4 years, have a daily program, where they engage in activities surrounding positive play, friendship building, social skills, learning about Jesus and prayer, and building positive relationships with trusted adults through a trauma informed and Biblical lens.

Teen Program

Youth ages 12-18 participate in our Teen Mentor Program where teens are paired with a mentor and meet 2-4 times per month. Teens also participate in bi-monthly Bible Study and receive case management services as needed.
